MTN Monthly Mug to celebrate Aliker Anniversary

Release date:5/27/2009
Kampala, Uganda:  The MTN Monthly Golf Mug scheduled for this Saturday at the Uganda Golf Club, will be more than just another sporting event this month. Club members Martin and Camille Aliker will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with fellow golfers, friends and family as MTN has pledged to host a dinner for the couple after the prize giving ceremony of the Mug. In line with the celebrations and besides the usual prize categories, a special prize to be won in honour of the Aliker’s will also be included.

However, on the greens it promises to be a battle, as winners of the April Mug seek to maintain a stronghold atop the leader-board heading to the Quarterly Mug next month while the vanquished from the previous tournament strive to bridge the gap.

In the ladies’ category Monica Ntege and Jenina Nasimolo, who both shot 2-over par 74 en-route to topping group A in the April Mug, will be hoping to keep the relentless duo of Jasper Kamukama and Flavia Namakula, the reigning golfer of the year, in the shadow.
John Paul Basabose will have to at least better his two-over par 74 in the April Mug if he is to comfortably fend off the challenge of Fabian Rwalinda, who was a mere shot behind. Juma Biramahire, winner of the previous quarterly honors, will certainly be hoping to return to his winning ways hence leading to the unpredictability of the men’s category.

The pros on the other hand must be wondering what more they have to do to topple Deo Akope off the top. Having won the first Quarterly Mug as well as the April Mug where he shot an impressive four under 72, Akope goes into the May tournament an overwhelming favourite. But having been just a shot behind Akope in the previous mug, the pair of Amos Kamya and Godffrey Mande must have given the rest of the field a reason to hope.
